Hi Reader,
It's polling day! Hope you're enjoying some good downtime with your family on this public holiday as well.
In my previous email, I talked about how the removal of the mid-year exams has made it harder for us to know where our teens stand in terms of tackling the exam questions.
WAs are helpful, but they are mini-assessments and not full papers.
School teachers also don't have the time to write down specific and targeted comments to help your child know exactly how to improve his/her score, since they have so many scripts to mark.
It's no wonder that we as parents worry that our kids aren't sure to how to manage their time, how to interpret the data accurately, and what specific answering techniques to use in different situations.
With all of the above in mind, we created the Lower Secondary Geography Mock Exams, to give students the most time-efficient way to:
Your child gets not just one but two timed practices, because my Geography colleague, Ms Stacy Wong, has taken pains to set two different sets of exams for each level.
This gives your child the opportunity to implement learning points after receiving feedback on the first mock exam, so he can check for improvements and further gaps in understanding.
When your child knows exactly where the gaps are, he will be able to bridge those gaps with plenty of time to spare before the EOY exams.
And when your child goes into the exam, he will feel way more calm and confident.
Now, because we need to allocate enough time for your teen to attempt and submit answers, we can't keep sign ups open indefinitely.
It's the final 2 days to sign up for our Sec 1 / Sec 2 Geography Mock Exams.
We've already mailed out the first batch of mock exam papers to parents who signed up, and the last day to enrol is 3 Sep 2023 (Sun).
When you sign up, your child will get two mock exam papers in hard copies. We mail them to your letterbox in tracked packages.
Your child will then email his/her answers to Teacher Stacy (we recommend writing out the answers and scanning them).
Teacher Stacy will not just mark but also record video feedback, so that your child knows what to do to get higher scores.
Now, I'm not sure if I mentioned this before, but Stacy is one of the sharpest teachers I've had the pleasure I've worked with.
She is an MOE overseas scholar and did her undergraduate studies at New York University, one of the top universities in the world on par with Harvard, Yale and other Ivy League schools.
She has not only taught in an MOE secondary school, but was also part of the team at MOE HQ that planned and designed the current Geography syllabus that our teens are studying.
I think we can be sure that she knows the new Geography syllabus and exam requirements better than any of us can ever hope to!
Her online coaching classes are all full as of now, so this is the next best chance to get access to her guidance and advice.
If you don't want to miss out, sign up here now: Sec 1 / Sec 2 Geography Mock Exams.
We look forward to seeing your teen on the other side :)
Cheers,
Karen Ang

Hi Reader, Hope you're having a good start to a brand new week :) If not, please do give yourself some time in your day to grab a cuppa and take a few deep breaths to reset... It's been tough recently. My dad was hospitalised and got so ill that his doctors thought that we might lose him over the National Day weekend. Thankfully, he pulled through. I'm so thankful that Dad is still around and we get to spend a little more time with him. I'm not sure if you can relate, but life as a...
Hi Reader, Many students have doubts about Geography that they may not verbalise, like... What should I expect for my Geography exam? How am I marked? Do I actually need to remember everything in the textbook? Why should I pay attention to Lower Sec Geography when I'm not sure if I would choose it as my O level Humanities subject? What Humanities subject(s) should I choose when I submit my choices in the Subject Option Exercise at the end of Sec 2? (For Upper Sec students experiencing...
